SuperMoon by bicycle: first-ever Muizenberg Moonlight Cycle Meander

So this is where it started. Our tweet on 25 April, riding home from the office on a perfect autumn day:

25 Apr CT & Wine Bike Maps ‏ @rideyourcity – Pink sunset, green sea, warm air: that’s what autumn bike commutes are about in @FabFalseBay. Think we need a @moonlightmass mass out here!

25 Apr Fabulous False Bay ‏ @FabFalseBay
@rideyourcity @moonlightmass absolutely! My wish comes true! Perhaps tie in with @safertogether Moonlight Meander, start Muizenberg beach.

moonlightmass ‏ @moonlightmass @FabFalseBay @rideyourcity @safertogether let us know! we are happy to get involved where possible

“@moonlightmass: @rideyourcity @safertogether we like #MCM – nice and short” Cool! Looking forward to Muizenberg Cycle Meander.

A few days, and countless tweets later, time, place and weather sorted…
“@rideyourcity: Weather predicted for MuizMoonlightCycleMeander #MCM = clouds, no rain, light wind 🙂 @FabFalseBay” <<

The original #moonlightmass was started by Daniel Graham (@Cpt.Grimmy); on he nonchalantly called it a ‘casual night bicycle ride starting at the Green Point Circle on a full moon once a month. Started as a social experiment on twitter the ride has been gaining popularity and on our last ride we had over 200 riders raising awareness for cycling in the city and the safety of cyclists in the urban environment.’ The truth is (in our opinion anyway) that it’s the most spectacular and inspiring act of bicycle activism since, err, since… the original ‘Argus’ idea. There’s almost nothing better than riding through Long St at night, bells ringing, lights flashing, soul rejoicing, nightclubbers watching…

Moonlightmass Muizenberg is for those of us who’d prefer not to have to drive (and the great thing is that we’ve hooked in with @safertogether, so Muizenberg will always be on a Saturday. Means you can still get to #moonlightmass ☺ But we’ve got Fabulous False Bay on our side…

So yes we’ll do it again. "@michbondesio: Thanks all for a fab night ride, must do it again 🙂
Next ride: 2 June, meet 5.30 at Surfers’ Circle, Muizenberg.

Thanks Lynn at BEN for pics, and Crosstown Cycles, @getafixcycles, @michbondesio, @rideyourcity, @bensonthedude @fabfalsebay @pacelinesports, @justmobility and others for support.. See you then.
